Young Disabled People’s Fluctuating Activism: Challenging the Perfect Standard of Activist

By combining ideas from social movement theory with disability studies, this article unpacks how young disabled people navigate the cultural ideals of activist and activism as they narrate their past present experiences activism. Five life history interviews are analysed in detail by deploying idea ‘perfect standard activist’. This allows taking into account complexity identifying a activist. The findings indicate figure out reach for people; result, do not necessarily consider themselves activists while still engaging embodied standards activism, ways which ableism frames these, provide framework to think about people’s fluctuating different forms it might take.
